Pre MA2: Discussin Boards and Reading journals

Before our construction of MA2 we had read through lots of articles and books about discourse communities, writing strategies, audience specific writings, and discourse communities.

We had also gone in depth about analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating text. This all played an important role in preparing us for our next major assignment.

Reading Journal 3, 4, and 5

All of thereadings in this section of my literacy Journey were about writing context discourse communities. All of our assignments had us take deep dives into analyzing discourse comminities, and how they work from within. We started to develope an understanding for community specific terms and languages. Analyzing how communities had lingos, their own artifacts, and much much more that made them a community. During this period of the class, my figurative green bean had been thouroughly fertalized and was thriving. I began having a deeper understanding fo reverything in the class and I had started to pick up on writing techniques in our reading and applying them to my own responses and even in my second major assignment.

MA2: Discussing and Defining Discourse Communities

MA2: My Rough Draft

I started to develope an understanding for how college papers work. I created a legitamet rough draft on the topic of why the fitness community is a discourse community, but I failed to incorperate how my own literacy and social interactions affect the world around me and categorize me into communities. I later revised it. When creating my rough draft I kept thinking about the article "Four Things Social Media Can Teach You about College Writing—and One Thing It Can’t", by Ann N. Amicucci. She specified things about knowing you audience whe writing, and context to writing that can affect the mood of a paper. During my rough draft I aimed to target my paper toward a classroom audience, and to not use too many different filters throughout my assignment. Looking back on it, I would focus more on adding better sources to my paper so that my essay had a bit more structure to it.

MA2 Final Draft

MA2: Final Draft

During my final draft I wanted to make sure to apply most of the knowledge I had learned from our readings. I wanted to specify how and why the fitness community was discourse. I had gathered my primary and secondary sources. I included direct quotes, and evidence of a structured community. Then I got to writing. I applied my knowledge. I used my growth from my literacy journey to compose an epic essay. I demonstrated my knowledge of MLA format. I used in text citations. I referenced different comments from the same community and pieced it all together like a web, proving my paper correct. I got a 72 on the paper.

Reflection

I think that I could have done much better on the  paper had I been less lazy. I think that if I also payed more attention in class, and taken more time to read all the requirements for the assignment, then I could have done much better. So next time I write a paper I'll make sure to read everything, and do everything the rubric requires.
