Rhetorical Defense
My goal is to display a message that drives home how teaching and literacy sponsors affect people's lives in the academic world, and how it has affected my life, and how my personal literacy sponsors could serve as an example as to how important literacy sponsors are to everyone. Throughout the presentation I will provide examples for a wide variety of things that pertain to a child's education. Mostly to do with teachings and typical education paths that children and teens follow when it comes to literacy. Without proper guidance, and without proper structure or literacy sponsors a child will lose the ability to effectively learn reading and writing skills.
I will be displaying this idea in the form of a fictional comic strip along with a short presentation as a precursor. During the presentation I will be outlining different skills and topics brought up in different points of time throughout typical education. This means that every grade from kindergarten to college gets grouped into its own slide, along with topics learned at these points in time, and skills children in these grades will have to learn and demonstrate. As education goes, there will be more topics with each grade level (slide) that becomes increasingly more complex. The presentation is meant to outline a perfect sequence of consistently effective teachers and literacy sponsors. In this scenario the kids get adequate teaching and individual teaching from tutors or teachers assistants, making sure all their questions are answered and they understand subjects deeply. This will help demonstrate my main idea that it is important to have a good teacher and literacy sponsors, and this could demonstrate how a student's literacy journey could be affected later on.
The first couple of comic pictures are meant to demonstrate how I was lost at first and relied completely on my teachers due to my lack of knowledge. I feel a fictional story with made up characters, but real life scenarios shaped around my life, could really help me prove my point when it comes to the comic strip. I will design the project around real life situations that I've experienced. However it's only a very general concept of my experiences and does not reflect everything exactly. I refrained from going more in depth due to time constraints.
I designed the comic strip and presentation around green beans. The purpose of this is to reflect the growth of the bean in relation to its academic knowledge. For the comic strip I chose a green bean to reflect age because it's easy to acknowledge plant growth as a passage of time. Throughout the comic strip I will demonstrate scenarios that help build the “bean’s” knowledge, and its performance ability throughout its education. Bean goes through an education experience very similar to my own. I did this for an accurate depiction of what happens with this specific series of events because it is similar to my series of events in school. At the end of the comic strip the bean is old and smart, and can accomplish its writing goals with ease thanks to peer mentors and literacy sponsors.
